What is the Fourth Trimester?

The fourth trimester is the 4 months after baby is born and when they are still in 'womb mode'.

Baby will want to be close to you at all times as they come to understand this new world they are in.

Your scent, warmth and sounds are what they have known so far and need extra support to transition into their new environment.

This is why we love babywearing and recommend it to all parents! Read more on the benefits of babywearing.

What would you recommend for a new mother?

1. A birth bag checklist

2. Read our blog for tips and stories on real breastfeeding journeys

3. A baby wrap + breastfeeding cover, of course :)

Why choose the Maine Baby Wrap?

It is designed by Mamas, for Mamas, and after trialling many wraps we feel we have got ours just right.

Made using breathable, super-soft cotton with two-way stretch to accommodate you and your baby comfortably everytime. It is the perfect length for petite-wearers without having excess fabric and also fits plus-size too.

What safety testing have you done?

The Maine Wrap has been acknowledged by the IHDI (International Hip Dysplasia Institute) as ‘hip-healthy’ and tested to EU regulations PD/CEN/TR 16512 meaning they are to the highest safety standards and suitable for up to 9kg/20lbs (~ 9 months).

Our fabric is also Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX®and complies with EN 1103 & EN 71-2 for the same stringent testing as nightwear flammability.

The Maine Wrap was designed according to The British Association of Babywearing Instructors for safe babywearing, following the TICKS guidelines developed by The Consortium of UK Sling Manufacturers and Retailers.

When can I use my baby wrap?

The wrap is intended to be used in the all-important 4th-trimester phase; from birth and is best suited up until around 6 months.

After this, we find baby is ready to be on the move and will want to look out at the world! If you are comfortable baby wrapping and want top use up until they reach maximum weight outlined, why not try a Hip Wrap Cross Carry.

However, it can be safely worn until the baby is 9kg/20lbs (approx 9 months).

If your baby was born prematurely or has any medical conditions, please first seek advice for using any baby carrier before using.

Will the wrap fit plus size and tall wearers?

Our wrap is the perfect size to comfortably fit all shapes, including petite wearers and fathers over 6ft.

At approx 4.5m length, with a two-way stretch, once tied snugly you can pop baby in and out of the wrap easily and adjust as needed.

Simply tie at the back or at the front if you have extra fabric, both are equally as safe.

Can I wear baby on my back or facing forward?

It is not advised to do this and will place pressure on your baby’s spine and joints, whilst also increasing the risk of the baby falling out. In addition, they are not visible for you to check on them regularly.

We always recommend following the TICKS Safety Guidelines.

How do I carry baby safely?

Our wraps are fully safety tested and accredited by the IHDI but it is always your responsibility to use this product as recommended according to the safety instructions provided and to always keep your baby closely monitored.

In addition, always follow the TICKS guidelines developed by The Consortium of UK Sling Manufacturers and Retailers.

Please see our Safe + Sound page for more care details.

Bon + Bear will not be held responsible for any injuries due to misuse or careless babywearing. Safety can only be guaranteed by the wearer.

I feel like baby is slipping down, am I doing something wrong?

If in doubt, always pull tighter when wrapping! Don’t worry about thinking there will be no room for the baby, this just means you are doing it right.

Always remember to keep your wrap tight so it is hugging your body and baby once tied. If needed, take the baby out to re-tie and adjust to remove all slack before tying it around you, pulling down at the shoulders is where you can fix this common issue.

Adjust so that the ‘X’ is higher on your back then baby is closer to you too.

Should I wash my wrap?

The wrap comes with its own drawstring pouch which neatly fits your wrap to keep stored safely when not in use.

We know you may end up spilling milk (bottle or breast), but we recommend limiting how often you wash your wrap and instead spot cleaning. Avoid washing with buttons or zips to avoid snagging the fabric too.

See the product page care info or refer to the tag on your wrap for more info.
